East Herts refuse planning application for 200 homes and a doctors surgery in Buntingford.
At last night's East Herts Development Management Committee (DMC), East Herts Council refused planning application 3/24/0294/FUL for 200 homes and a doctor's surgery on land East of Buntingford.
Following representation from the Town Council, District Councillors, County Councillor, a member of the public and a lengthy debate by members of the DMC, there was a majority vote to refuse the application.
In 2023 the Town Council conducted a survey regarding the proposal, which received over 1,100 responses. An overwhelming 89% of respondents opposed the plans, answering "no" to the question: "Are you prepared to accept 200 additional dwellings to enable the delivery of a new medical centre?"
In addition to the survey, the Town Council organised an extraordinary meeting to discuss the development, during which residents expressed strong concerns about the impact of 200 new homes on the town's infrastructure and character despite the promise of a new doctor's surgery.
